Default 100 word story.

Yeah, I never write fantasy stories, but I felt inspired by my Dire White Tiger (it was worth it, hell yeah). In any case, it was a competition from some magazine I found on Poet's Market, and the title is Alien Pet Care. For those who haven't toyed with 100 word stories or 2 paragraph stories... they are weird. I don't think it's that bad, but due to the limits, it is somewhat confusing on the first two.. uhm three... four or so read. Hope you guys somehow manage to enjoy it.

Novelty’s Death

The breeze that pushed her reflection’s hair seemed soft, and made Arty look beautiful. Pools of water warp realities, however, and miss out the harsh bite that burned her pale skin— her place was not in the mountains. The white tiger liked it though; she ruffled his hair. He was sick.

Generic-foreign-prince offered him for her induction ritual, knowing that her people had never seen the like. The ceremony was held, and their fate was decided— she a Disciple of Melandru, and he her companion till death.

Arty sighed as the moaning stilled— it wasn’t the climate after all.

Intriguing, if it weren't blistering hot I would have likely felt a shiver up my spine.

I'm impressed, do you have more?

Had you not said anything of what it was about, I would not have understood it. Frankly, though, even after reading it several times over, it still made as much sense as the first time I read it, and even became more worthless in meaning. Not to be rude, for it is not worthless, merely it has no particular meaning. If you did not have the 100 word peramiter, it would have made much more sense, and maybe would have made more of an impact.

Well, it's not an overly succesful attempt, I'll admit, but it's not that bad either I think. It's very difficult, but a very good practice. I've only read a few good ones ever, but those? Those were great, so many things you could hide in so few words.

To put it in crude terms, she's no longer a "disciple" because she decided to take a novel companion who became sick. That would be the "companion 'till death" bit. I'm making up GW lore though, but it never said anything otherwise to start with =P.

And yes, I know everyone junked thier trusty companion as soon as they found out about black moas, phoenixes, and other new animals, but I assumed that a bond between pet and ranger would be a bit more sacred than that. I'm just over explaining now, but just in case, she tried to save his life/her career, but it wasn't the climate after all.

Not to mention that White Tigers are actually from foresty climates. You could say plothole, but I could say that she didn't know...!

Hopefully I'll have something else written up. Actually I do have something in mind, maybe that won't be too bad.
